The Library welcomed new Foreign, Comparative, and International Law (FCIL) Librarian Dean Deane (they/them) in January 2024.
Dean hails from Trinidad and has over 14 years of experience as a law librarian, including 4+ years of experience as an FCIL Librarian at Vanderbilt Law School. Before joining us at UC Law SF, Dean worked as a law firm librarian for 5+ years. Dean stepped into the sizable shoes of our former FCIL Librarian, Vince Moyer, who retired last summer.
Kate Scheid - Access Services and Interlibrary Loan Manager
Kate Scheid (she/her) joined the Library staff as Access Services and Interlibrary Loan Manager in May 2022. Kate oversees the daily operations of the Circulation Desk and manages our document delivery and interlibrary loan services. Originally from Chicago, Kate earned her BA in philosophy from Shimer College and her Master of Library Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Kate served as director of the Buchanan District Library from 2008 to 2015 and as director of the Holly Township Public Library from 2015 to 2017. Prior to moving west, she worked as the Youth Department Manager for the Brandon Township Public Library.
The Library Promotion Review Committee, comprised of Librarian and AFT representative Tony Pelczynski, Faculty Member Mark Aaronson, and Library management representative Step Schmitt approved the promotions of three librarians this year.
Justin Edgar, Associate Librarian - Tier III
Justin Edgar was promoted to Associate Librarian, Tier III. As the Archivist & Information Access Librarian, Mr. Edgar has consistently proven himself committed to his own professional growth, availing himself of various technology-related certification opportunities and attending numerous professional conferences. Mr. Edgar has served the Library, and the greater College community at large, by volunteering to sit on multiple committees (a UC-AFT Promotions Review Committee, two internal hiring committees, the Library’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, etc.), and through his participation in various forms of disaster preparedness planning. Mr. Edgar also trained his replacement as Access Services Manager, enabling a smooth transition.
Holly Herndon, Associate Librarian - Tier III
Holly Herndon was also promoted to Associate Librarian, Tier III. During the five years that Ms. Herndon has served as the UC Law SF’s Research and Instruction Librarian, she has made significant contributions to the College through teaching, providing Library reference services, and creating educational materials for UC Law SF students and faculty. In the process, Ms. Herndon has consistently garnered “Outstanding” ratings on her annual performance evaluations. It is especially noteworthy that Ms. Herndon is an exceptional instructor in a classroom setting and was characterized as a “gifted teacher” by students and faculty.
Angela Wang, Librarian - Tier V
Angela Wang was promoted to Librarian, Tier V. Among many other statements of praise, the Promotion Review Committee noted that “comments by professors, students, and colleagues show that Dr. Wang has a strong ‘command and knowledge’ of law librarianship, information management, and digital resources management. The positive feedback from UC Law SF professors and her supervisor shows effective mastery of her position responsibilities.”
Operations Manager Jeff Herrera was this year's Charles and Jane Rummel Distinguished Service Award recipient. The prestigious Rummel Award recognizes outstanding service to the UC Law SF Community which exemplifies Charles and Jane Rummel's unique spirit and quiet manner in their quest for excellence at the College. Jeff has been instrumental in ensuring the smooth operations of some of the most critical departments on campus, and has demonstrated great dependability and resourcefulness.
